Finally some sense down in Austin.

Looks like Big Bend is going to get bigger.

AUSTIN – The Texas School Land Board rejected the bids of two private buyers for the Christmas Mountains on Tuesday, paving the way to sell the West Texas property to the National Parks Service.

Re: Finally some sense down in Austin.

If true (not that I'm doubting, but as you mention a cite would be nice) that would be great. It would be a sad thing to see commercialism move into the BB area. It's about as unspoiled as you can find in the contiguous US state. Now, if La Entrada can be routed AROUND the Davis Mountains area...

Re: Finally some sense down in Austin.

The article made a few papers including

AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN

Wednesday, February 06, 2008

The Christmas Mountains, a rugged West Texas tract whose proposed sale had become the object of intense public scrutiny, will remain in state hands after officials rejected two private bids for the land Tuesday.

don't know how long this link will work but the above was the first line Christmas Mountains to stay in state hands
