Texas Star Party

I have become interested in the Texas Star Party and want to attend. I understand it is the biggest in the country.

I went to the South Pacific Star Pary in Australia in 2002 and the Grand Canyon Star Party this year. These were great events. In Australia, I saw the stars of the southern hemisphere for the first time.

Who can offer first hand information about the TSP?

Re: Texas Star Party

We were just in that area last week. The skies are insanely dark out there. The Milky Way does look like a cloud because it is so clear. The Prude Ranch looks to be a great retreat location. As we passed by, a group of folks were enjoying an into to horsemanship class in the arena. The Observatory was interesting. We had small children in tow who were quite bored with the information overload but if you are an astronomy enthusiast, get your travel plans set.

I've attended almost every year since 1989, so I'm familiar with it. What do you want to know beyond what the website tells?

Not as far as I know. Every one I've attended has been in the range of mid April through late May. Each year, the entry packet asks for input on the best and worst times to attend TSP, but it's always been in the late spring since I've been attending. Next year, it's a slight bit later to accomodate families a bit better. There used to be (maybe still is?) a fitness camp that's held at the Prude Ranch in August, so that might also be a potential conflict.
