Used kayaks in Houston area?

I have had a canoe for years, but now that my oldest are off to college (and I'm a tad bit older), I would like to buy a used kayak. Are there any dealers in used recreational kayaks. I'm just looking for something to putter around in - nothing fancy.
thanks,
Richard

Re: Used kayaks in Houston area?

DW and I searched for near on a year for a pair of used 'yaks. Found little available at what I'd call a good price. Those we found were priced so close to "New" or so far away as to be not worth the cost. Also, unless you know exactly what you are looking for, a bit of help in selection is worth a lot in itself. Have heard that many have had good luck purchasing "Used" and I hope you do as well. We ended up purchasing "New" from Mountain Sports in Arlington, Texas. Feel it was well worth the added cost and we are very pleased. Specs on our boats are in my sig line and can e-mail pix on how we tote them, if your interested.

No matter how you choose to go, good luck and happy camping!

Re: Used kayaks in Houston area?

Thanks for the quick reply. The only kayaks I've been in were the Old Towne otters that my brother owns. For the type of recreational use I would be using them for, that type is good.
I would be interested in a picture on how you tote them. Are you carrying two or only one?
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Used kayaks in Houston area?

Hi Richard,

I did it the easy way and set up a new album on my Epson Photo Center account. The link below should get you there. Let me know if it doesn't work for some reason. Feel free to take a look at my other park albums. You may find something to interest you.

Epson Photo Center, "Boats and Rigging"

As I said under one of the pix, I have the two boats rigged to hang from the ceiling in the garage, when not in use. Thought I had some pix of that but can't find them. If your interested, let me know and I'll take some new shots and post them in the same location.

Hope this helps and happy camping!

Re: Used kayaks in Houston area?

Thanks, Turn Key,

That is definitely a unique rigging
I have a van (4 kids - but 2 are off in college now and the 3rd is heading their this fall), so I will not need something as elaborate. Nice kayaks!
Thanks for sharing,
Richard
