Surfing

Is there anyone here who surfs?

I got introduced to surfing last year when one of the tropical storms hit down around Lake Jackson. Got to go again this year when Ivan came through. I am completely hooked now, I can't wait until I get to go surfing again. It is easy to see why it is such a passionate sport.

But I have two dilemas, I don't have a board (which I plan on rectifying as soon as I have the money), and I don't have the knowledge of surfing or where the best spots to surf are. And I heard somewhere that the waves really clean up this time of year because of the north winds - does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks

Re: Surfing

As one of the resident old guys on these forums, I can admit to you that I muddled around with surfing back when it was a craze in the early to mid sixties. The Beach Boys sang about it in Calif. and it eventually caught on here on the Tx Gulf Coast also. I never had my own board as I just rented them at the beach. It was fun but I never got very good at it. I learned that if the waves were good enough to catch on a board, one could also dive out in front of a breaking wave and body surf.
