Kayaking After Amputation

An inspiring story about Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers who've returned home as amputees and are now taking part in sports such as whitewater kayaking thanks to the help of volunteers.

6% of U.S. soldiers are returning home as amputees, twice the rate of any previous war the U.S. has participated in. Programs such as the one mentioned in the article, Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project, allow vets' to get back to the active lifestyles most of them led prior to being deployed and subsequently injured.

Re: Kayaking After Amputation

Reagan is one of my fishing buddies. I remember when "Nav Doc" first present the idea of taking the patients at BAMC fishing in kayaks. Everyone at our meeting said let's do it!. That was over two years ago. I'm glad Reagan, and our other buddy Lollipop (who also kayak fishes at 78) are stubborn and have stuck through all the stuff that said this project was going no where. They're almost at the point where we can take someone fishing.

Check that name. Although I also know a Nav Doc, the fellow was ReconDoc. At least I had the right real name...
