Re: Inks Lake SP fun in 09

Spent May 1-3 at Inks kayaking and backpacking. It was my first visit there and wow.. it's just beautiful! In fact, this thread is how I came to learn about Wild Texas. I Googled "Inks lake kayaking" to see if I could find information on what to expect and this is where I found myself. Glad to be here... looking forward to hearing about other's adventures as well as sharing some of my own.

Anyhew, the kayaking was great. What an enjoyable way to spend a day!

-Me!

Re: Inks Lake SP fun in 09

Welcome "Me" and I hope we can always be of help!

One thing we didn't get was a lot of "yak" time. Weather just didn't cooperate with some cool temps and a good bit of wind. 'Yaks spent most of the time locked to a tree on the beach. Oh. well. Great trip any way and maybe better boating weather next time. Again, welcome and

Happy Camping!

Re: Inks Lake SP fun in 09

Thank you for the welcome srds and Turn Key

srds, is your avatar photo the "Devil's Watering Hole" area of Inks?

Having been my first visit and the only person in the area, I didn't try the rock jumping thing. I did hike up the canyon a bit though for some geocaching and photo opportunities. After having backpacked to the Pecan Flats area the previous night where the humidity and insect counts were rallying for top spot, it felt absolutely great to splash around in the water for a day.

(sigh).. Monday morning... am I not the only one already recounting the weekend's adventures and wishing I was back at it?

Re: Inks Lake SP fun in 09

Funny story about Inks:

Labor Day '07 DS & I went camping there & took the 'yak. We left it cabled to a tree right down from our campsite. On the day we packed up to leave, DS went to get the oars and found 3 Susan B. Anthony gold dollars lying by the 'yak in the grass. To this day he is CONVINCED someone unlocked the 'yak, took it for a quick trip, and left the $3 to pay for using it!

No, I didn't put them there. I'm as baffled as anyone -- they were just lying in the grass where anyone could have seen them!
