Unhappy Flood Safety

It just goes to show you can never be too careful in the midst of flood conditions -- an off-duty firefighter drowned yesterday in flood-swollen Barton Creek, in Austin.

A 14½-year veteran of the Fire Department, (firefighter Rob Horne) was wearing a life jacket and a helmet, officials said.

“This just emphasizes how dangerous these waters are,” Fire Department Lt. Palmer Buck told the Austin American-Statesman in Thursday's editions.
