    Popups vs Hybrids

Dumb question. Even though I will never be in the market for a popup, I got to wondering when reading posts mentioning hybrids, what is the difference between the two?

    Re: Popups vs Hybrids

That is a loaded question but here goes, First we had a pop up for 7 years, and traveled with 2 kids as far as yellowstone and back. We enjoyed the time.

We now have a hybrid and enjoy it also.

As to the big things, a hybrid does cost more but you get walls. (see pictures in the link (the webshots link below)

The ends come out as tent ends and we have a slide out, full kitchen stove, refrig, ac heat bathroom and other things, we had no stove, no restroom and less room in the pop-up

Lake Ouachita S P, Hot Springs AR 9/07

The hybrid and popup relieve some of the elements and the hard ground (or cot) with a matress. You can camp in any weather and be comfortable with the hybrid (down to 20 last year)

I have to think more but both to me are better than a tent trust me once your off the ground and can stand and walk more than 6 feet its grear ( and I still tent with the scouts so I know all three)

    Re: Popups vs Hybrids

I agree with Troop198, they both make it hard to sleep on the ground but we still do on many trips. We have a TT, a pup, and 3 tents, the pup has electric setup, shower, toilet, hot water fridge ,stove and microwave,2 kingsize beds heated and a queen, heater and a/c.TT has all the above but more room. Now that gas has hit everyone so hard our pup is getting the most use.Next year we plan on getting a hybrid the best of both. They are getting as light as most of the large pups.Just being able to enjoy the experience is the main thing.

    Re: Popups vs Hybrids

I'm still hoping to get something a little easier to camp with but would like to know, has anyone been denied access to a campground with a hybrid? I am seeing so many places that don't really want campers anymore unless it is a motorhome or TT. I understand the atmosphere of "exclusivity" and that may be a place that I really don't want to be anyway.

    Sandy,

Not in the one year we had our hybrid

we did stay at some "RV parks" in Iowa and Missouri

(to us an RV park is designed for TT and the big class A's (bus like) RV parks always have full hookups and usually cable TV)

In the seven years with the PUP we were never refused either (and we went to a large number of places both in and out of state)

I supoose there are some that don't like hybrids and PUPs but there is always the next place.

(BTW in planning we use trailer life and AAA and they usually say if limits apply) and KOA takes all campers
