Need Info on RV parks on Gulf??
|
|
Have a 3-day weekend coming up in October & would like to stay on the coast somewhere between Galveston & Corpus. Have a pop-up so need water/elec. sites. These are the cities I'm considering. Do any of you have any experiences on RV parks in these areas? I prefer right on or very close (w/in walking distance) to a beach area.
Freeport, Palacios, Port Lavaca, Seadrift, Port O'Connor, Rockport, Palm Harbor, Aransas Pass/Port Aransas.

Galveston Island State Park!!! Great time of year...shouldn't be crowded and you should get right up to the dunes with a camper. 2 miles+ of great walking beach and civilization is a stones throw away!!
Retaurants and history as well as fun things. It's wet, great Philly cheese steaks at the store before the park. Little Coors kegs for $10.....Guess I spent too much time there this summer:eek:
Dellenera (Galveston) and Quintanna in Freeport are too crowded for us. 7' between trailers. Can't say much for others cause I don't know

Goose Island State Park right on the water.
Lake Texana is not right on coast, but nice.
Lavaca Bay RV Park
1818 Broadway St
Port Lavaca,TX 77979-5301
361-552-4814
Lavaca Bay is right on the bay. This is a neat area as you can explore Indianola, the first port in Texas, Port O'Connor and Seadrift. They do not have a website, so you will need to call for details. I remember it as being nice, but I did not stay there. Fish right there off the pier.

Thanks for all the info. Unfortunately  I found out my son's district does NOT take off that Monday but the Friday following instead. So.... no 3-day weekend for us! But thanks for all the info. We may plan a trip in the Spring -- maybe for Easter. What's a good outfit for shark fishing?? My son would be 10 in the Spring & that would be a great trip!

If you're casting , I d use a 3/0 or 4/0 penn or actually any medium duty reel, even spincast. Line capacity, - more the better. Get a long rod if possible, like 9-12'. rod holder to put in sand. Main thing for sharks in my limited experience. A good leader, if I am casting I use a 10 foot leader( when casting I set the end of the leader on the legs of the surf weight, then cast).
Set it up like this, take surf weight, put on the line, then tie line to leader, then hook at end of leader, set drag loose. In the case of a hit once casted let the shark move the line some before setting hook. You will either have the line hit like freight train, or it will play with it a bit. If the line is tugged on a bit here and there , be patient, maybe 1 minute or 5 minutes, just lat the fish/shark play with it. Most of the time stingrays are the best bait, check the bait stands for availability.
hope this helps
Also try the pink fish bites synthetic baits, the whiting normally tear them up. There are actually times you get tired of casting and reeling them in, and they are gooooood eating fair if desired. Filet them on the half shell, throw some sliced tomatoes, onions a bit of lemon juice, salt, pepper.... let sit for an hour or so in the ice chest, fire up the pit and cook on low heat for about 15 minutes or till meat is white....good grub
