Red face Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

Well, when I say a little, maybe I should really say ALOT...LOL!

So, my husband always has a hard time buying me presents b/c I'm really pretty low maint. and I have just about everything I need. This year I told him I wanted an oil change and new tires for my car. Easy, huh? So he does that and decides we'll take a drive from Austin to San Antonio to go eat dinner and hit some of the RV places along IH-35, just to LOOK!

Well... long story short but we ended up buying a Summit 21Bh - (21ft. TT).
I'm still shell-shocked. Shoot, I just wanted new TIRES not the box on top of them.

We've looked a little over the last year or so (b/c my dh is a wimp and won't camp if it's too hot. Big sissy) but I really thought we'd just go with a small pop-up that had air and enough room to sleep, and that's it. Plus I really do enjoy tent camping. Oh boy, I sure hope we didn't just make a big mistake!
You've got to understand I'm someone who researchs EVERYTHING. It took me at least 6 months to buy my printer and almost a year to decide on a camera. (I won't even tell you how long I've had the same PC!)

I think work has finally pushed me over the edge!! (On the brightside we did get a really great deal.)

Oh well, I just wanted to share. I'm sure after our first trip out (Nov 2-4) I'll have tons of questions.

Thanks!!

Re: Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

Congratulations. Now, of course, you need to post a photo of your new "baby"!

I'm a big-time researcher and planner, too, but I have my moments of temporary insanity -- it's usually how I wind up buying new computers, with "just looking" turning rapidly and inexplicably into "buy now!" There are things I've jumped at that were perfect decisions at the time, though -- like our first house, or my wedding dress, which in both cases I bought the first one we looked at! Impulsiveness is sometimes just another word for trusting your gut and not giving in to "analysis paralysis".

Again, congrats, and do let us know how the inaugural trip goes! We've rented a pop-up travel trailer once, and can definitely see the merits of one.

"Insanity"!! Yes, that's the word I should have used instead of "impulsive".

We go pick it up Friday, I'm sure I will be taking tons of pics so I will pick a few good ones to post. (right after the butterflies in my stomach stop swarming!)

Thanks for the congrats, I will definitely let y'all know how it goes! (of course we have the date but not the park picked out yet though. Got to get on that!!) My daughter is just most excited about sleeping in her own bunk bed. Oh, the simple joys in life.

Re: Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

I am sooooooo jealous. I wish my husband would get a little insane. He is into basics, ( I think that means CHEAP). Oh well. One day. We rent when the need really comes up but I still would like to have one packed with the usual things and just get the necessities together and go. Again, I am sooooo jealous.

Re: Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

As one who has migrated from tent to pop-up to travel trailer i think it is great, not insane. Ours is a 21ft as well, big enough without being huge. The wife and I reached a compromise when we bought as we purchased a "hybrid". If you are not familiar it has fold out beds, a lot like a pop up, but yet has the self contained facilities she wanted. I like to have the flaps down and enjoy the night sounds and the breeze and with this we are able to do so. Get out and enjoy your new "baby" and do share some photos of it's inagural voyage.

Smile Re: Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

Thanks everyone for the congrats and well-wishes!!
(BTW- my husband is always this insane. I usually tie a rope around his waist to keep his head out of the clouds but in this case... heck I just decided to join him. LOL!)

I really am excited, if not just a little overwhelmed. There's so much info out on the web, but as with all things, the advice conflicts just enough to make it confusing. Sigh. Oh well, best way to learn is just go out and do it, I suppose!

Oh and Rockhill, we looked at those hybrids. I absolutely fell in love with one of the cubs they had there. Since I love tent camping so much and waking up to the sounds of birds chirping, breeze blowing, etc., just like you I thought that those 'tent' beds would be the best compromise! Unfortunately I had my feet grounded just enough to realize that we were getting such a better deal on the TT that it would be smarter for us to go for it instead. (this time!!) Heck, we weren't even supposed to be buying at all anyway. LOL!

Re: Anyone else out there a little impulsive?

Insane? We went from a small 17' hybrid to a 34'TT w/two slides and haven't looked back.

For us, since most of our camping takes place during high temps, the tent end windows of our hybrid usually stayed zipped up the majority of the time anyway...in favor of the A/C. Further, the thin layer of tenting did nothing to drown out all the late-night parties and early-morning diesel engines. The 'flapping' during windy conditions was a nuisance and it was inconvenient to dry out when breaking camp in wet weather. Nope, I don't miss the tent ends.

If you really think you'd prefer a popup or hybrid, rent one first. Schedule a trip when and where you will usually be camping and see how it goes. Then try it in your TT and compare.
