Uhh, TX is a big state. Can you give us a hint as to what area you're in?![]()
We are new to the area and have had a very hard time finding good places to walk and run. I'm sure everyone has some great suggestions and I'd really appreciate them because I miss the long walks that I used to be able to go on!

I am so sorry! This is the first forum I've joined that isn't just for my town. I'm in San Antonio.
Texas Parks puts out a guide Texas State Park Guide: Hike Texas
take a look at easy and hard walks
I'm in the Houston area but one hiking destination on my radar in the Government Canyon SNA. Check the link provided by Troop 198.

There are several great parks for walking within a reasonable drive of San Antonio that would make for easy day trips. I agree with PloddinTod as far as Government Canyon SNA is concerned. Others I highly recommend include: Lost Maples SNA, Pedernales Falls SP, Hill Country SNA and Enchanted Rock.
Check these out at the following link:

Happy trails!

Justin and I (your hosts here at WildTexas.com) live in San Antonio. You can filter the search results here on Wild Texas to show only parks in the vicinity of San Antonio -- San Antonio, Texas Camping, Parks & Lakes
We concur on the recommendations to Government Canyon SNA, Lost Maples SNA, Pedernales Falls, Hill Country SNA and Enchanted Rock SNA. Guadalupe River SP also has a nice long (VERY ROCKY; can be a little annoying by foot or bicycle) mixed used trail. The trailhead for it is on the right literally just after you pass the ranger station.
There are also small local city and county parks that may offer opportunities (paved and unpaved), including OP Schnabel Park, Friedrich Wilderness Park, the new Leon Creek Greenbelt by UTSA, Walker Ranch Park has some natural trails as well, though mostly paved.
Apologies for not having more of our local parks featured on WildTexas.com. I have had very little time to devote to adding content and photos to the website since my little one was born 17 mos. ago.

To Camp or Not to Camp -Lets go Camping- Have Fun
Camping with a little one is challenging, but with some planning and the right equipment camping is a lot more enjoyable. Our baby is 10 months old and she's been to Garner SP three times. 1st time in October (she was 3 months and we stayed in a cabin for two nights), 2nd time end of February (did one night tent & one night in cabin due to a cold front) and then recently on the 8th (two nights in tent).
Things that made it easier for us: portable air conditioner or heater, fan, portable playpen and a bumbo (baby chair).
It's been fun and so far (knock on wood) we have had a great time each time with no issues. She seems to enjoy being outside and looking around at new things.
This weekend we are going to Chalk Bluff for one night of tent camping!
...oh yeah, back to the topic: we live in Helotes (right outside of SA) and we really enjoy Friedrich Wilderness Park for walking. They have lots of trails at different difficultly levels and you won’t get run over by bicycles.
I live in San Antonio (right outside Helotes)and I'll second the recommendation for Friedrich Wilderness Park. My favorite area is towards the back on the Fern Del loop where it is very steep and rugged.... GREAT training area for mountain backpacking.
Other nearby nice places are the newly opened Crownridge Canyon natural area, Eisenhower park, and Stone Oak park. All have a variety of terrain variation from paved to rugged.
