Re: brazos bend

Too bad this is such an old post with no response. To anyone who is still interested, I've camped there twice, and it is a memorable experience. Although you can hike, I much prefer to bike around the park. The alligator ponds aren't very near the campsites - if you take a mtn bike, you can leave your car at your campsite and enjoy the ride both ways.
This is one of my favorite parks and I recommend it highly. If you love wildlife you will love seeing many deer along with the gators and many birds, raccoon and armadillos are abundant - we also saw a huge owl nearby, and there are some wild hogs (very hard to see).
My other favorite park especially for biking, if you live in the south, is Buescher State Park. You can ride over to Bastrop State Park, but it is a very challenging ride.

Re: brazos bend

I agree Retro, Brazos Bend is a great park. It is a serious park for camping, wildlife and birding. No float trips or dances and usually the fishing is not that great but none the less a good place for camping with the family. We will be there mid October for a couple of nights and I am looking forward to taking the bikes and getting some walks in also. Hope the weather turns a little chilly by then so the campfire will be tolerable. Marshmellows anyone?
