photo clubs?

This is actually only a question for san antonio/austin texas area folks, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a photography club in the area... I'm not sure what one does at a photography club, but there were a ton of them up in Boston, and since i am new to the area, I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to check around. I'll run a google.com search in a few minutes, but not everything shows up there (although, it does come pretty close).

I imagine there must be on-line outdoor photography groups as well, which i kind of though was what this was, but everyone here is so quiet... (i can imagine these words that i type echoing off walls in an empty concrete room...). if anyone knows of any places there, please let me know.

I don't know of a lot of photography-specific clubs in Texas (just the ones listed here, but you're likely to find photographers of all skill levels in any active outdoor club in Texas.

Wander around the "Web Guide" of OutdoorPhoto's sister site, WildTexas.com, specifically in the "Outdoor Recreation" category -- every single activity (for example, hiking) listed in there also has a "Clubs & Organizations" category with links to local, state, national and international clubs related to the activity.

Some quick links from the aforementioned resource:
* Backpacking & Hiking clubs
* Biking & Cycling clubs
* Birding & Wildlife Watching clubs
* Camping clubs/organizations
* Running & Walking clubs[/list:u]Hope this helps! Enjoy!

Since posting that, I have found one place (and would have found more had i not had to send the laptop off for repair): Greater San Antonio Camera Club (http://www.mllhomme.com/gsacc/main.html) . Dont know too much about them, not sure anyone but me even cares, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

Ask and ye shall receive...

Here are some more Texas camera clubs I found via google.com. I searched for, quite simply, "Texas camera club" and "Texas photography club").

(Sorry, they're in the order I found them, not alphabetized.)

Central Texas Camera Club -- http://www.shopcentex.com/ctcc/
Houston Photochrome Club -- http://houstonphotochrome.homestead.com/
Fort Worth Camera Club -- http://www.geocities.com/fortworthcameraclub/
Bay Area Photo Club -- http://www.bayareaphotoclub.org/
Gulf States Camera Club Council -- http://www.burninggold.com/gsccc/index.html
Austin Shutterbug Club -- http://www.austinshutterbug.com/
Houston Camera Club -- http://www.houstoncameraclub.org/
Corpus Christi Camera Club -- http://cccameraclub.tripod.com/
Dallas Camera Club -- http://dallascameraclub.tripod.com/index.htm
Fort Worth Camera Club -- http://www.fortworthcameraclub.com/
Plano Photography Club -- http://planophotography.tripod.com/
UT Austin Photography Club -- http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~photo/
SWT State University Photography Club -- http://studentorgs.swt.edu/teca/
Texas A&M University Photography Club -- http://photoclub.vaxlan.net/

Whew, that took awhile to compose into an email! ;)

PS: ALL of these clubs have been added to Outdoorphoto.com's sister site, WildTexas.com, in the Web Guide's Photography > Clubs & Organizations category. I'd recommend bookmarking that page!

don't worry- i'm on wild texas all the time....

thanks for doing all that work- i'll be sure to check out the wild texas page. i did notice that most of those were outside of the immediate san antonio area (but some were in austin). Unfortunately, I dont have the level of skill that would necessitate travel beyond austin to club meetings...
