Post WMA's

Was wondering how many of you use the Wildlife Mangement Areas. I live 8 miles from Old Sabine Bottom WMA which makes it a convenient place to get away from time to time. OSBWMA has quite a few miles of trails for foot traffic only and has recently opened a few campsites.

Yesterday morning I took a little 6 mile walk in the woods. I was the only soul in the entire WMA. The weather was great and I saw a little wildlife.

If you are not familiar with them I would encourage you take a look and check them out. You must have at least a Limited Public Use permit which is available for $12.00 where fishing liscence are sold. I put off my purchase for several years. Glad I finally got one as I plan to visit more often for those walks in the woods.

Take a look at my photos. http://community.webshots.com/album/114540678VSqiDt?291

Putting on my juvenile hat... You LUCKY DUCK! OK, got that out of my system.

I admit I don't live within spitting distance of any WMAs, and have not visited as many as I'd like. Some seem better suited to drive-through visits, but others like Walter E. Buck WMA (which I have visited and hiked at,) located near Kerrville-Schreiner State Park, offer splendid hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Thanks for sharing your nice photos. What a dichotomy--ice crunching underfoot as you stroll down a lane lined with tropical palms.

Shannon, Kerrville WMA was a great place to ride my bike and watch all kinds of wildlife a few years ago. I think it is well within reach from San Antonio. There was no camping there so the animals were not used to people being around all the time. This site makes me want to get back to Texas ASAP.

Heh... I'll trade you... I can't wait to move to Washington State... Looking at real estate brochures for the San Juan Islands as I speak... (however, if richland, wa is in the eastern half where it is flat and arid and hot... deals off!)
