Where are you wanting to go this summer?

With school letting out soon, our thought turn to how to spend those saved up PTO days. Where is everyone going this summer?

Money is tight and gas is crazy. We are tent camping so weather (heat) will be a factor in the decision. If the funds are there, this is our summer plan. June 1-15
2 nights Dinosaur Valley, stop to visit Fort Richardson
2 nights Copper Breaks
2 nights Caprock Canyon
3 nights Palo Duro Canyon
1 night Monahans
1 night Balmorhea, stop to visit Fort Lancaster ( if open )
3 nights South Llano River

July 6-16, still deciding, possibilities include
plan A, Rusk, Palestine, Caddoan Mounds, Mission Tejas
plan B, Neff, Meridian, Inks, Longhorn cavern,
plan c, Colorado Bend, Abilene, San Angelo
Plan d Mustang Island and the subdivision pool

Labor Day weekend
Maybe Garner, if we book early enough

Looks like a nice itenerary. But if heat is a factor you'll have to stay home. It will be hellishly hot in all those places. All the camping I do this summer will either be out of a kayak or canoe on the water or in the Rockies.

The "Original plan" was Palo Duro, Rocky Mtn, Flaming Gorge, Grand T, and Yellowstone. That would be sweet! Maybe next summer.

Good luck on getting reservations for Garner. It fills up fast.
It sounds like you have one great road trip ahead of you.
Enjoy!!

We might need to trade in the 4x4 Xterra for a horse. How high will gas go?

The cabins at Garner say no a/c only fans. Is this true? Can you bring your own a/c?

Re: Where are you wanting to go this summer?

Man, if money only grew on a tree in my yard, I might water the grass a bit more!

The reservations have been made.
June 1-9
Dinosaur Valley 2 nights
day trip to Cleburne
Lake Mineral Wells 1 night
Inks Lake 3 nights
day trip to Colorado Bend or Longhorn Cavern
Guadalupe 2 nights ( staying as late as possible on last day)

Send me a PM if you're gonna be camping these places during the same time. Sure would be fun to meet some folks, maybe even potluck dinner one night.

Today is the day!

Got some extra sleep this morning. The truck is packed, the food still needs to be packed , and wouldn't you know it, its raining outside. Oh well, the forecast is 50% in Glen Rose instead of the 80% here. I'm looking forward to meeting TurnKey and DW tonight. This will be the longest camping trip yet. I hope we have enough sunscreen!

We are back. Will post travel reports gradually. Once the truck is unpacked, the laundry done, groceries bought.....
