Where to go Easter weekend?

I just got my park pass for the very first time and now I'm going a bit camping crazy!

I have several trips planned for the year already. I was thinking of adding a 4th of July trip but since our big Tour of Texas trip is planned for just two weeks later I am now thinking we may do an Easter weekend trip instead. Plus it will give us an extra day.

So where to go in April? Double Lakes has been our "go to" place for years because it is so close to us and we love the seclusion. I want something different this year. I have three top choices and would like your opinions. They are Tyler SP, Perdenales SP and Garner SP. We haven't been to any of these places. We are already going to Garner in July but thought it might be nice to go when less crowded to scout out good sites first. Is April too early to be swimming? I know it'll be great for hiking.

Thoughts? Suggestions??

How about Brazos Bend or Seminole Canyon before it gets to hot?

Re: Where to go Easter weekend?

Campermom you have such great photos! I'm gonna need to figure out how to make a slideshow.

We live about 1 1/2 hours from Brazos Bend and we're planning a day trip for next Saturday or Sunday. I never thought about camping there. Seminole Canyon looks very interesting. I'll put that one on my list to think about.

My kids are kind of freaked out about the aligators at Brazos Bend.

Re: Where to go Easter weekend?

wow what a range double lake to Tyler to Pedernales to Garner

All offer different things to see and do. Keep in mind large parts of central Texas are in a drought so water is way down and fire bans are in effect in some parks.

If Tyler is in the final mix consider Cooper SP (South) also, one of our favorites as campermon can attest. I have multiple pictures posted.

We were originally looking at Huntsville for Easter but haven't comitted yet.
I was also going to look at Fairfield SP which is closer. Have been to both but some time back.

Appears Brazos is back no notice on the web page, they are even offering the below

Texas Outdoor Family workshops will be held at this park on Saturday - Sunday (February 14-15, & April 25-26, 2009).
