Village Creek Water Levels???

Hey there I have reservations at Village Creek for Mother's Day weekend and I also have a canoe trip planned that Saturday. I was wondering if anyone was aware of what the water levels were like there. I am suppose to call the canoe outfitter on Monday to verify that the water level isn't too high or too low for this trip - but I am impatient! Can't wait till Monday. I am in Houston and we just about have been flooded out with the constant rain here. Didn't know what the situation was like on Village Creek.

Anyone??

I called the park and they said right now the outfitters are not putting in, water is too high/swift. If no more rain it should be safe by MD weekend. Here's the number: 409-755-7322. Good luck and don't take chances.

Re: Village Creek Water Levels???

The whole area got hit pretty hard by both Rita and Ike. VCSP lost a lot of trees but they have reopened most if not all of their trails. You can can camp, hike and float the creek. There may be several portage spots because of downed trees but from what I hear, it is still a good float. Lots of pretty sandy white beaches.

Re: Village Creek Water Levels???

Yes it did get hit by Ike but the website states that almost all damage has been fixed and everything is back open.

I just got off the phone with the person I was renting the canoe from. He said they aren't putting anything in this weekend and if they get any more rain they won't be able to put in next weekend either. They are expecting 70% chance of rain this weekend so it doesn't look good for my trip.

If I have to cancel, and I probably will, I want to go somewhere else. How hard will it be to get last minute reservations on Mother's Day weekend? And where is a good place to go where the kids can swim a bit within 2 hours of Houston?

Re: Village Creek Water Levels???

Thanks Troop.

I just called the park again - they said the river level is still a good foot above where it needs to be and there is a chance of rain this week which doesn't look good for us.

We are in the process of making back up plans right now. Problem is that my husband now has to work and wont be home till noon. I was looking at McKinney Falls but we wouldn't arrive till nearly 4pm so what are the chances of getting a good site at 4pm on a Friday? On a holliday weekend? Prolly not too good. I also thought of Pedernales and Tyler but his working presents the same problems. Our good ol stand by park Double Lakes is always here just an hour away in case and we never need ressies there. I'd actually love to drive the 5 hours to South Llano but I dunno.

One thing I do know for sure is that I WILL for SURE be camping SOMEWHERE this weekend!

Re: Village Creek Water Levels???

Well it looks as if I made the right decision be cancelling my ressies at Village Creek. The outfitter called himself yesterday and cancelled on me saying the water is too high and too dangerous. Glad I called when I did so I got a refund on my site. Oh well the hubby and I will try again sometime I think without the kiddos. Hope we enjoy McKinney Falls this weekend.
