Thumbs up Tyler SP May 2009

Located in the Pineywoods of East Texas, Tyler SP is around 100 miles east from where we live, but wanted to get out and go somewhere else. We had last been to Tyler when we had a PUP and had two kids along just to keep us busy. Now that they have better things to do this was to be a relaxing weekend.

Tyler has 107 electric (E)/water (W) sites many of which are pull throughs (although we opted for the back in site) Around 50 sites have W,E,& Sewer.
The park has 35 screen shelters, a large group area where we visited the Dogwood Chapter of the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society who do lunch there once a month YUMMY ! (more on that later)

Tyler SP has a large lake with fishing and swimming, multiple fishing piers and lots of fun toys to rent.

We took the 2.5 mile hike around the lake (pictures coming) and also observed some mountain bikers riding on the bike trails.(not on the lake trail)

The LS Dutch Oven Society is dedicated to preserving the art of Black Pot Cooking throughout the State of Texas. And feeding campers sure can get one hooked! We watched the demo and I now know what I can do when I retire, part time work at a park giving Dutch Oven demo's and eating samples

We did get to endure one of the longest and noisest storms we ever had to while camping, we did fine. But I am sure the tent folks were not dry, it was loud and wet.

As I noted pictures to come, but for a nice park in the woods of East Texas, Tyler is a great place to see.

For a great time in East Texas The Uni showers were interesting the showers were apart from the rest room and you had a small room with a bench and to yourself. Better idea than uni bathroom/shower combo at another park imho.

From what we saw all the screen shelters are shaded. You can walk to fish, but would drive to swim. (not a big deal)

We would recommend a water electric site in Cedar Point, you can walk to swim and all but a few are shaded. (Sites 1 & 2 are sun but are walking distance to the beach area and restrooms might make those good for your bunch. Tent areas 5,6, 7 & 8 are shaded and some well spaced out but some sites have a long walk to the restroom.

enjoy !

Re: Tyler SP May 2009

I haven't camped there since I went to college at TJC in '90-'92! My girl friends & I would go camping on the weekends to get out of the dorms for awhile.

Thanks for posting the pictures! I would love to take my family there.

Start planning we cut over to highway 80 through Terrilland then east and it was 102 miles from The Bush Toolway and Jupiter. With all the shade it will help with warm weather

Re: Tyler SP May 2009

Who'd have thought we had this kind of beauty here in Texas?! It reminds me of back home in the north woods of Wisconsin.

We've not camped here since Nov '04 (Lakeview loop)...much too long to go without. After seeing your photos, I'm putting this park on my short list.
