Would I be absolutely crazy to go tubing over labor day weekend? If not, where would be a good place to go? We live in Dallas but we're thinking of going down to Austin and making it a day trip from Austin on Saturday or Sunday. If you think that this weekend would be far too crowded/hot, what would you say about tubing at the beginning of October. Is it still warm enough then?

you could look into what the water is like in gruene. rockin r river rentals is a good place to start. gruene is next to new braunfels off of i-35, 45 minutes south of austin.

if you don't have to tube, and swimming is all you need, you open up more opportunities (lack of rain, the flow s are down). The San Marcos river in San Marcos is nice, Perdernales falls state park in Johnson city would be a nice day trip. Inks lake, also a great place for swimming, and not to far from austin. Krause Springs is close, Guadalupe river state park, again, call ahead to check for water levels.

dont let a little crowd scare you, it's the last few weeks of summer, go have some fun.
