Summer reservations have been made....

After much deliberation, we've booked some days in July ( yes, it will be hot but that's the only full week I could get).

1 night South Llano River SP
travel stop @ Fort Lancaster SP
2 nights Davis Mountains SP
visit Mc Donald Observatory
2 nights Balmorhea SP
travel stop @ Fort Stockton
2 nights South Llano River SP
travel stop Caverns of Sonora
night trip Devils' Sinkhole SP (BATS)

We will be spending lots of time swimming.

If anyone has ideas for stuff to see or do while we are out that way please share them.

p.s. We will be tent camping so I'll bring the fan!

Re: Summer reservations have been made....

Thanks for the mention of the birthday. You never get to old for that....well, I haven't yet.

SLRSP is our favorite. While others have the BEST swimming, or the BEST water sports(canoe etc), or the MOST sites, or the MOST ranger led programs, SLRSP has the NICEST staff, who care about their park, the land, the safety and fun their guests are having, and the wildlife is #2, the water is #2, the tubing is #2, the quantity of sites is #3 or 4, the restroom is #2, the hiking #2, the solitude away from the city is way up there, and its only 2 hours away. Maybe I should consider SLRSP my #2 park. The Ranger, Wayne Haley made time for our Cub Scout boys to discuss everything they needed to learn so they could earn their wildlife conservation belt loop and pin, and arranged a conservation service project for them to do. Another trip there, with 2 different scouts (and mine) he showed them a power point presentation of a snake eating a rat taken at the park. The other staff goes out of their way to make your stay great. Oh, wait, someone might read this and want to go there. They might enjoy it so much they tell a friend. Ok folks, I made it all up, you don't want to go there and don't tell anyone!

Re: Summer reservations have been made....

One more week to wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My travel partner just informed me about the recent purchase of a pop up. We'll be enjoying some AC. The menus are planned, the dry goods purchased, and the gear has been waiting patiently in the garage for over a month.

Oh, the Pop up will spoil you for sure! I could NEVER go back to tenting after my Pop up. We just got back from a weeklong trip to the FL panhandle & at the end of this month we're scheduled for Garner. (Hope it dries up by then!!)

Actually, even July nights in the Davis Mountains should be very comfortable. You can sit outside at night and kinda make up for the heat of the day. So far, the temps I've seen for Fort Davis on the WeatherUnderground website have been pretty reasonable. Let's hope they hold.

Have fun!
