Spring in the COLD brr

Actually left the metroplex (DFW) with the remains of snow on the ground (in March no less) and went to Purtis Creek SP First it got down to 28 Friday night and that's a little cold.

But about the park. Purtis Creek is located in Eustace Texas (Like that helps), which is next to one of my favorite named towns (Gun Barrel City) about 65 miles south east of Dallas. (no guns in the street that I could see , but there is a hoot and holler Laundry

The park has 59 sites with water and electric and 13 sites you backpack or can Canoe into. Most are small

I took 10 picures see Slideshow of pictures, photos, and videos, from webshots

for a quick show. Rest rooms were clean and relatively new
park had some hearty fishermen there (and nuts like me)
bass is the big draw.

The local Friends group had lots of activities coming up including an easter egg hunt and some canoe trips with a ranger.

Ranger said birding was big at the park and there is a geocatch.

As noted it has some small sites but overall would be good for a weekend

Re: Spring in the COLD brr

It looks like a good place to canoe or yak into for a primative camping site,(or just for fun) better park map at the state web site) the lake is 350 plus acres. (They do rent canoes, kayak and paddleboats for $11 for first hour, $5 per hour after. Special 6 hour rate of $22 (March 2008 price)
