Spring Break Plans
Where is everyone going?
I've got just 2 days off so we got a spot during the week at Brazos Bend.

Re: Spring Break Plans
Boy I miss spring break , at some point your kids are too old, they want spring breaks with their friends on the beach, not with the parents in a trailer

For me, spring break is the second week in March. I'm going down to Louisiana to spend time with the kids. I just found out that my son has a lump under his arm so we have to keep an eye on that. Supposed to go camping at Lake Fausse Pointe State Park in St. Martinville ( CRT - Louisiana State Parks Fees, Facilities and Activities) that weekend. That'll be my first time tent camping. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Re: Spring Break Plans
Son & I are leaving Mar. 15 for 8 days in West Texas. We're staying at the Prude Guest Ranch in their RV section (Ft. Davis). This will be our second trip to that West Texas area. We went the first time in July '05 on Amtrak. (FYI: do not EVER go Amtrak if time is of the essence......)

Re: Spring Break Plans
Our next camping trip isn't until April. March is busy for us with Justin's portrait photography business, and me trying to get back in shape by putting miles on my road bike.
Keep the trip reports and travel plans coming--we definitely are living vicariously through you guys right now!

Re: Spring Break Plans
We're leaving NC on the 14th and will be in Palo Duro Canyon SP on Sunday for a couple of days. Then over to the Dog Canyon in GUMO before heading down to Big Bend for a week. Thanks for sharing your great State with us.
On a side note - We have reservations in PDC and BB but GUMO doesn't take them so we called the ranger station at Dog Canyon to inquire about our chances of finding a spot over Spring Break. The reply - "Don't worry. If you get this far we'll find somewhere to put you." That attitude is one of the reasons we enjoy visiting with y'all.

Al & Cindy,
Dog Canyon is a remote gem that is little utilized, but well worth the trip. I suspect there will be plenty of room for you. The rangers there really are very friendly and accommodating. My daughter and I spent an hour or two chatting with the rangers both before and after hour Dog Canyon backpacking trip. Enjoy! Be sure to post a trip report afterwards!!
I'm planning another GMNP backpacking trip in June and am having a hard time deciding if I am going to do another Dog Canyon hike or return to the southern trailheads. I'm leaning towards the southern trailheads because I'm wanting to work in a hike to Guadalupe peak, the highest elevation in Texas at 8,749'.

Re: Spring Break Plans
My kids have Spring Break different weeks. They won't get to do anything together. After their Spring Break is over I'm spending mine at the Texas Challenge (geocaching) at Mineral Wells State Park.

Re: Spring Break Plans
We're off to Inks Lake for 4 days. Water only site. It will be the first time camping for our 3 youngest, 5,6 & 8. We haven't been in 7 years. I hope it is as fun as we remembver. Back in the day, we used to do primitive camping when our oldest were only 3&4. It was a blast.
