Re: Spring Break Plans

Well, we were heading in Westy up to Palo Duro Canyon SP, but work got in the way so, we're having to scale back to a more local park, and of course, by this late of time everything is about filled up. Inks, Bastrop, Buescher, so we're heading down to Lockhart SP later in the Spring BReak week for a couple of days. It's a nice little park, good creek fishing and a golf course!
Will have to keep Palo Duro on our list, I'm pretty bummed, because this was going to be our annual trek somewhere new.

Hope everyone enjoys their camping time this Spring,
Gary

Re: Spring Break Plans

Some buddies and I are going to hike the entire trail around Lake Georgetown. I can't wait. I was going to do this last July but Texas flooded that weekend.

Smile Re: Spring Break Plans

Hi everybody,

We're headed to Inks Lake next week for 3 nights. We've never been there before, but from what I've heard from this site, it sounds wonderful. We've never been camping in the hill country, so I'm so excited to see the beauty.

We plan on hiking and maybe swimming, and one day we will go to Longhorn Caverns and see the cave.

Can you rent canoes/paddleboats on the lake?

The one thing about camping is it requires alot of cooking. I love the grill. We will have steaks, hamburgers, and pancakes. Any other ideas for meals on the grill?

I'd appreciate any advice/tips for this campground. And, I just want to say thank you to all the cool people on this website. I just joined in December and I've already learned so much about Texas. Thanks!
Wild Texas is Awesome!!!

Re: Spring Break Plans

Yes they have canoes & kayaks to rent. They also have canoe/kayak 'tour's of the lakes scheduled that are fun. You go with a TPWD guide who tells you some of the lake's history, etc.

If you go to Devil's Waterhole and then either swim or float over to the far end and hike up past the lake there's a waterfall and some nice areas back there.

Cooking on a grill -- I do very little of. However, foil packets with chicken breast, sliced onion, cubed potatoes, baby carrots and a spoonful of cream of something soup will cook on the grill just fine!

Re: Spring Break Plans

Another idea for the grill is some of that HEB pre-cooked brisket. Wrap it in foil and put a little water in there also to heat/moisten it and throw it on the grill.

That's some yummy vittles.

Re: Spring Break Plans

Inks is nice. You can rent canoes and paddleboats. I suggest the canoe tour. It's cheaper than renting it for the same time and you get a tour. Ranger Smith does the tour and he's knows the lake. Sometimes they offer a nature hike to stumpy hollow. We've done that and also the Owl prowl hike at night. There are loads of deer in the park and love to eat white bread ( don't ask me how I know this). We like to drive the park at sunset, we call it a "Deer drive". It seems that they won't run away if you are in your car 5 feet away from them. If you are on foot 20 feet away they run.

We like frozen raviolli. It cooks fast and the sauce can be room temp and poured on top. Frozen shrimp, linguinie and alfredo sauce works. Preseasoned chicken breasts like southwestern, Italian, or fajita cooks quick on the Coleman. chili is easy. What about bringing a crock pot. After breakfast, throw your meat and veggies in ( use a crock pot liner to help with the clean up), and you'll have an easy dinner. Most people think of hamburgers, hotdogs, brats, chicken etc, on the grill. That's all great stuff, unless they have a full burn ban which means NO CHARCOAL. Always have plan B.

Search this site for threads about Inks, Longhorn cavern, and menus. I know menus have been discussed here before, it's been a while.

Have fun.
