San Antonio Missions Trail

Just spent the weekend wandering around five missions in the San Antonio area. The Alamo is maintained by the Daughters of the Republic while the other four are maintained by the National Park Service and the Catholic Church with all still in operation.

The Alamo is a nice place to visit but I preferred the four other missions because they were much less crowded. The National Park Service calls the trail a 'hike and bike' trail, but you're much better off driving the route.

Not a bad way to spend a weekend...

Re: San Antonio Missions Trail

Glad you discovered the trail. Back before I got pregnant (now have a beautiful 4-month-old daughter to show for all the "trouble"), Justin and I loved mountain biking together around town, and that included occasionally riding the San Antonio Mission Trail.

Once I get my "form" back I look forward to doing it again!

Here's a pic of Justin and I taking a stop at Mission Espada while cycling with a friend of ours: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wildtex...7594050168637/

We also enjoyed the missions, albeit by auto. We had been to the Alamo as all good Texans do but never the missions. While in San Antonio on a little get away decided to visit them and glad we did.
