Salado Creek Greenway - San Antonio, TX

Thought I'd share an e-mail I sent to San Antonio city officials regarding my GREAT experience yesterday exploring the Salado Creek Greenway. We explored the IH410 to Rittiman Road section. Here's the e-mail:

"Spent the day yesterday with my daughter which included about two hours at the Salado Creek Greenway. We started our walk from the Tobin Park Trailhead and I was excited since I had not explored this section of the greenway (I have been on the Huebner to Blanco segment).

Here's a photo gallery from my visit:

I wanted to share a few observations with you:
    • The greenway was litter free, patrolled by SA Park Police and made a GREAT first impression with the informational display, architecture used for the display & picnic tables, etc. It almost felt like we were on "vacation" somewhere!
    • When I arrived there was just one car in the Tobin Park parking lot. As we walked along the greenway, I must have encountered at least eight cyclists - some "serious" road bikers and some folks on comfort/mountain bikes. I also encountered a jogger and 2-3 couples walking. This was great to see! And, it demonstrated that people are coming to the greenway from other trail heads or just biking/walking from their homes. So, a parking lot "count" if anyone was doing such a thing might be an inaccurate means of judging utilization.
    • We had a GREAT time, always felt safe between the park patrol and the other folks out enjoying the greenway. This is such a wonderful display of tax dollars being used to benefit the community. Awesome, awesome, awesome..."

It's a neat place for us geocachers as well. All these new trailways give us good access to do our thing, and make it more likely that families will be finding our caches and not just the hardcore bushwhackers. And it makes it easier to get to these on a bike. There is a long multistage stage cache in that park that would have taken forever to walk, but I did it easily on my bike.
