A reminder as we head into the upcoming fall and winter months -- some Texas State Parks, State Natural Areas and other public lands are closed for certain portions of October, November, December and/or January for hunting.

Access restrictions vary by park, so it's best to check TPWD's schedule of restricted park access and, if still in doubt, contact the park directly (or the toll-free Texas State Parks Information Line at 1-800-792-1112.)

It always bites me...especially the January closures. I always think of hunting as being a strictly fall activity, forgetting that some of the hunting seasons run all the way through January.

For the most part, TPWD tries to keep all parks publicly accessible for some portion of every month that major hunting seasons (whitetail deer, wild turkey, etc.) are going on. Hunting's big business and helps bring in revenue for TPWD to support operations and maintenance of the parks.
