Re: RV Camping near Longhorn Cavern State Park
Thanks to all of you for your replies. We were looking at Inks Lake but I'm concerned that we can't actually lock in two sites next to each other and we aren't arriving until Saturday afternoon. We are trying to decide if we should risk it or try to find a location that will lock in specific site numbers on our reservation.

Re: RV Camping near Longhorn Cavern State Park
Getting two sites next to each other on Saturday could be a problem. If you can use "water only" sites you'll stand a better chance. This park is very busy on the weekends. We always arrive on Thursday and often camp with friends who come in on Friday. To get what we want, we've been known to pay for the extra day (Thursday) and let the site sit empty for one night. Not the best solution but it works and I don't mind giving the TPWD a little extra funding.
The idea of being able to reserve particular sites in Texas State Parks has been talked about for many years. It's done in other states and I'm sure it could be done here. I do see though how the added costs involved and very possible loss of revenue has slowed down the idea of adopting this practice. Our parks have been running on a very thin edge over the last several years and I'm sure we don't want to make this worse.
Any how, I hope you can make it to Inks Lake State Park and enjoy it as much as we do. Let me know if you have any questions about the park.
Happy Camping!

Always looking for a place where we "might" entice our 14 and 16 year old??
I saw that some sites said water and firerings? Are they 'stack em and pack em' or are they a little more spacious? They did not show any pictures of the camping area that I could find.

Took a look last year and though it's not for us, it is a pretty nice park. RV section has large deep sites with pretty good shade. Not at all packed though not a great deal of privacy. "Tent" section is in a wooded a area with a good bit more privacy. Shower houses were excellant.
Beach area looked like it should have been pretty nice but it was spring time when we were there. It appeared that high river flow had caused a lot of dead-fall to pack up all along their shore line. They were in the process of getting it squared away but it looked like it was going to take quite a while.
Like I said, not the place DW and I are likely to return to but many like it and I can see why.
Happy Camping!

Plenty for teens:
Lake Buchanan Adventures
Lake Buchanan is NOT a constant level lake, so the water level varies.
