Re: Purtis creek state park
It is a nice little park. If you are into fishing it probably is a great park. Standard version camp sites are available. It has been acouple of years since I have camped there so I am afraid I do not know current conditions.

Re: Purtis creek state park
Haven't camped there but did check it out a few years ago. Very nice, secluded park with some great sites. Only thing I didn't care for was a 50 boat limit on the lake and a $5.00 per day fee for ANY type of watercraft (including tubes, from what the ranger said). That has kind of slowed us down on returning being as we have two 'yaks that we like to take along. Other then that, its a very nice park.
Happy Camping!

Re: Purtis creek state park
I stopped in to Purtis last summer. It is what I call a "boat ramp" park. Basically a camp ground at a fishing lake. My impression was that the campground was cramped, the camping places were really right on top of each other. And there is hardly any hiking trails. Also the roads are not what I consider bicycle friendly, narrow with no shoulder, not a place for kids to be when a truck pulling a bass boat comes hurrying around the bend.
There seemed to be a lot of locals in the day use swimming area, fishing around the NO FISHING IN SWIMMING AREA signs.
However, I did stumble into a coyote in midafternoon that ran away stopping about thirty yards away to watch me fumbling for my camera only to trot off through the woods about the time I was focused. Still a nice surprise close up encounter though.

Re: Purtis creek state park
I am new to this site and think it is great.
My family loves Purtis. Many of the sites at the beginning of the park are very secluded. We have had Thanksgiving there the last two years. I had a pupup and would make a turkey in an electric roaster. The sites are large and the rangers are very friendly.
My son has not been charged for his boat, but we have not been there since November.

Re: Purtis creek state park
Thank you for the welcome. We also like Purtis because of its proximity to Dallas. We have camped in site 50 twice and liked its size, except we had people walking thru the site as they left the hiking trail.
