Possum Kingdom vs. Meridian sp

I was thinking of going to either Possum Kingdom or Meridian state parks, anyone been to them?

My main purpose is photography, scenic, landscape, wildlife if lucky but don't have much time to spend.

Meridian seems to have been around for quite a while, are the hiking trails interesting?

Anything interesting at Possum Kingdom? I've only seen some pics of the cliffs on the lake.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Possum Kingdom vs. Meridian sp

Haven't camped at PKSP but have been there. Didn't care much for the park though there is nothing wrong with it. Camp sites are a bit closer together then I like but OK. Deer were plentyful on our last visit. Nice lake that's great for fishing. Probably won't return with out a good reason.

Meridian is smaller and much prettier. Sites are also a bit closer together then I like. Found birds to be prolific but other wildlife not as evident. Lake is nice and the beach house is a very fine looking structure worth a few shots. You can walk across the top of the dam and get some nice shots as well. Haven't done a lot with the trails so won't wade in there. Really need to get back out to this park and do the research for a solid review.

For my money, I'd vote for Meridian. Good luck and happy camping!

Re: Possum Kingdom vs. Meridian sp

Thanks for the help. Got out to Meridian last saturday and it wasn't bad. Like everywhere else it needs rain but other than that its a nice park. The trails were nice and had some interesting areas on the cliffs on one side of the lake and some stone rock climbs in the woods. Saw a deer and a bunch of armadillos. The armadillos are what you hear rustling around in the bushes, got some good shots of them. There were also a lot of buzzards roosting on the far side of the lake, the trails went right under them and the smell was quite bad, a good rain might help a lot.

Thanks for the reply. Got out to Meridian last saturday and it wasn't bad. Like everywhere else it needs rain, but otherwise was fine. The trails are pretty nice, cliffs on one side of the lake and some nice trails through some bottom land, and some rocky climbs up the hills. Saw a deer and a bunch of armadillos. Armadillos seemed to be everywhere, you'd hear them rustling in the bushes and eventually they'd pop out on the trail, got some shots of them. There are also a lot of buzzards roosting on the far side of the lake. The trails goes underneath them and its quite "stanky"! Some rain would help that.

Forgot about that! In the dead trees, just the other side of the lake as you cross over the dam, right? They had that area staked out real good when we were there last.

Glad you enjoyed it and wishing you more happy camping!
