Parks with Water & Fun things to do??

DS loves Inks Lake (because of the cliff-diving @ Devils Waterhole) and Garner (rope swings and river).

Are there any other SP's in Texas that have "xtreme" things like this that we could explore?

Add Balmorhea and bring a dive mask some fins and swim with the fish

Does extreme include paddling (canoe) or raft? There is a long list for that.

Is this limited to in the water? Some fun hikes to take.

How about sand sledding at Monahans?

I will think on more, but suspect our friend campermom has some thoughts on this one as she has a DS also

Re: Parks with Water & Fun things to do??

Those parks are for sure a great place to have fun. ALMOST anywhere with water is fun. My son loves playing with frogs and fish, making little holding ponds for them since they really love being someone's pet for a few hours. Lake parks such as Inks, Mineral Wells, and Sommerville are nice. I prefer to avoid lakes which allow waterskiing and jet skis. IMO they detract from the serenity of a day in the water. At Inks and Mineral Wells you can rent a canoe or kayak. Inks always has programs for the family.

River parks such as Pedernales, Colorado Bend, Garner, Blanco, Palmetto, Guadalupe, Dinosaur Valley and South Llano are always changing. You should check water conditions before going so you know what to bring, low water, a nice raft is nice, high water a tube or canoe is good. At South Llano my son brings his boogie board and rides it under the park road at the bridge. Dinosaur Valley has the footprints, which in 20 years or so may not be visible anymore. It's fun to explore the park when it is warm enough to get in the water. If you have a small net and a plastic bucket, a kid can have hours of fun.

You may consider viewing the videos for the parks on the TPWD site and let your son decide where to camp next.

Might be easier this way if swimming is the draw, visit the state web site pick a park then ask someone will have been there

    TPWD: Swimming in State Parks

Unless something has changed one of those lead pictures (of Blanco) is no longer there due lack of water
