Park Fees Increase in 2004 - Wild Texas Forums: Parks, Travel & Recreation

Effective January 1, 2004 many of the state parks entrance and campsite fees will be going up.

I don't know how much the increase will be, but it sounds like it'll be across the board at all or nearly all of the state-managed (TPWD) parks. When I have more concrete info, I'll post it.

Howdy,

This is another reason to get the gold pass for the park system. It costs a bit more, but it supprots the system and it gives me and mine a great peace of mind.

By the way, the Texas Conservation Passport (TCP) is being replaced beginning January 1, 2004 with a more convenient individual card called the Texas State Parks Pass. The cost for one pass will be $60; two passes, such as for my husband and myself, will cost $75. (That's just $10 more than the current TCP + extra sticker cost of $65.)

The Texas Conservation Passports folks currently have will all still be honored until they expire, for instance in our case we renewed our TCP in early October since we had a bunch of park visits coming up.

We've had a TCP ever since they first came out with them, and I've longed for the day where they'd go back to an individual, card-based pass again. If you're travelling and rent a car, that mucked up your ability as a TCP holder to get into parks fee-free, unless you remembered your TCP receipt and had a forgiving park ranger/staffer at the check-in station!
