Palo Duro & the "Texas" Show?

Well I finally convinced my wife to give camping a shot . . . she's a self-proclaimed city girl but has agreed to a three-day camping trip to Palo Duro Canyon next month. What helped seal the deal was the "Texas" show, along with the night sky astronomy viewing they'll have on one of the nights we'll be there.

Anyways, I'm trying to find some details on the show, but the websites that I've found for it (www.epictexas.com and www.heritageent.com) haven't been working. We're trying to plan out our days and budget, so I was hoping I could get a little help from someone who's been. Do you need to purchase separate tickets for the "Texas" show, or does the park entrance fee take care of it? Is it put on every night during the summer? What time is the show and how long does it run? Thanks!

The TEXAS outdoor musical is still put on every summer, as far as I am aware. The website for it is notoriously known for going down/changing URLs, etc., so your best bet is probably to call the park directly.

That said, here is what TPWD has on their Palo Duro Canyon SP page. Hopefully, this data is accurate for this summer:

In this family-friendly show, set against an authentic tapestry of history, the show’s fictional characters bring to life the stories, struggles and triumphs of the settlers of the Texas Panhandle in the 1800’s. Song and dance abound—and a generous helping of good ol’ Texas humor too—with spellbinding lighting, special effects and fireworks. The entrance fee does not cover the cost of the play. The tickets generally have to be purchased in advance. If you are camping in the park already you would drive up to the amphitheater and purchase tickets there, unless they are sold out already. The BBQ buffet is/was adequate and the show production spectacular. If you are not staying at the park the rangers will keep you at the gate till a little after 5 then let you drive down to the play. A wonderful setting for a musical about Texas. the total event, meal and play, probably last about 3 hours. I forget what time it started but it was around 6 or so as it ended after nightfall.

Texas Travel website (TravelTex.com) had this:

    Address: 1514 5th Avenue
    Zip Code: 79015
    Telephone #: 806/655-2181

Both those links will work eventually. I think it is the weather.

Thanks for the help, I called and found out what I needed and also got the current working website for the show which I figured I'd pass on in case anyone else comes through here looking for it.

Thanks for sharing the information you obtained. I have updated our Palo Duro Canyon State Park page to reflect the correct web address. That will benefit everyone else who's planning a similar trip.
