Palo Duro Canyon SP...suggestions/comments

Well, looks like we're heading to Palo Duro Canyon SP for Spring Break this year in Westy. What I'm mainly asking is for tips or pointers on things to see and do in the park. We're gonna be there for 3 nites in March. I've made reservations in the water/elec camping area, so we're good to go with that.
It'll be me, my wife, my son(12yrs old) and my mother in law! Yikes, we are really excited for sure.
Thanks for any and all ideas.

Gary,

I know you asked for things IN the park, but if you have some time to spare -- or if the weather turns bad one day -- you might consider visiting the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum in Canyon on the campus of West Texas A&M. It is well worth the trip.

Re: Palo Duro Canyon SP...suggestions/comments

We are heading up there in June and found tons of stuff on the internet. Plans include Lake Meredith National Recreational Area, Alibates National Monument, Panhandle Plains History Museum, Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, Buffalo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, and Kwahadi Kiva Museum. We are staying at Palo Duro for 5 days and should have time to experience the park and see the Amarillo area. We are planning to see Texas at Palo Duro and seeing a performance at Kwahadi of native dancers. The Kiva is a gathering place and the dancers are a Venture Crew ( Part of Boy Scouts) which travel the country. My son is into Native American culture. We can't miss that when we go. Should be an adventure!

Other good information, if coming from Amarillo (North) consider taking Washington to Texas 217. Better scenery
Another go to maps.live.com, type in Canyon Texas find the park do a birds eye view, use tools to change angles just fun to see parks this way. Maps taken on sunny days:ribbit:

We are staying at Caprock Canyon for 3 nights and will take 217 to Lake Meredith before going to Palo Duro. I saw on the map we have that it is a "Scenic route". I love taking pictures so, we'll go that way.

Here's a good website for much of the info you seek. Be sure to take mother in-law on a walk along the rim of the Canyon!

J/K, sounds like your relationship with your MIL is similar to the one I have with mine. Have a good time.
