Off-leash beaches

Are there any beaches in Texas that allow dogs off leash?

I've searched here and the web in general, but haven't had much luck.

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that I'm looking for beaches along the Gulf.

Re: Off-leash beaches

The beach at Matagorda runs for miles and is basically wide open. North Padre Island runs south for miles and is the same way. I've driven my Jeep on them many times and as long as you are not right AT the entrance areas, I would say you can let your dogs run.

If you go down to the beach at High Island and turn left, you can go a short distance and do the same thing. There IS however a hippie hollow at this beach.

How difficult is it to get to Matagorda Island and back?

Re: Off-leash beaches

Come into Matagorda on Hwy 60 and take a left at the light. Stop at the grocery store that is on the right and get a beach pass to drive onto the beach. Continue across the lift bridge the 7 miles to the beach and take a left. You can drive about 30 miles, but when you get to the end, do not drive out onto the silted area or you will never recover your vehicle.
