Our annual RV trip is scheduled for three weeks of July and we will be staying at eight different state parks. I would appreciate any and all info on the following ones, as we haven't visited them as of yet. They include - Tyler, Bonham, Ray Roberts (Isle du Bois Unit), and Lake Brownwood. Tyler is the main park, as we will be there for four nights so we can go to Longview for the Great Texas Balloon Race. My wife as always wanted to get up close to them. We will also be staying at Bastrop, Fairfield, Mineral Wells, and South Llano. These last four we stayed at before and found them worth going back to. We will also include a side/day trip to Ft Richardson while we are staying at Mineral Wells. Any and all information on any of these parks would be appreciated.

I do believe you'll enjoy Tyler SP. Tall pines, lots of shade and a really nice lake. They have made some changes since I was last there so I'll say little about the sites except that I found the ones they had to be very acceptable even before any inprovements. Park has a large deer population and watch out for the racoons! They think they own the park.

Isle du Bois Unit on Ray Roberts is also very nice. Not as much shade but some areas are pretty good. Really enjoy some of the lakefront sites. Good facilities and very well kept on our last visit. Park has a great sand beach for swimming and the lakes in Texas are full again (at least in this area).

Ft. Richardson is a nice park to visit. Lots of history that should keep you busy for a fair part of a day.

If you really want to see some balloons, I would strongly recommend the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Here's a link for this year's event:

Thanks Turn Key! Once again you came through for us. Last year you turned us on to Mineral Wells - a very nice park - that's why we are heading back there for a couple of days. This is only our third year with the 5th wheel, so I'm still working up the courage to go out of state. Leaving Texas feels like leaving the country. Do they speak Texan in New Mexico?

Yeah, kinda' sorta'. My dad lives out that way now and says that they have more "issues" with some of the other ethnic groups that can't or won't try to understand the English language:rolleyes:. Oh well. Whatcha' gona' do?
