Meridian State Park

Just returned from a nice weekend at Meridian SP. This SP is on the small side but the facilities were in great shape. The lake was full and the fish biting, (at least per the excited little girls at the neighboring site!). As stated, this park is small with only 8 full hook ups sites and 8 with water/electric. There are some water only sites below the dam and some screened shelters available. If you are in the neighborhood and can not get into your favorite site you might give it a try.

Re: Meridian State Park

Glad to hear you had a good time at Meridian! Growing up, my church youth group would make 2 or 3 trips to Merdian SP for retreats. I have nothing but good memories about that. I expecially loved to go set at night on the Bee Ledge and look at the stars.

However, last September my husband and I decided to stay 1 night at Meridian as we were making our way down to the Hill Country for vacation after a bike show in Granbury. It was an awful experience! Not because of the facilities but because of the other campers in our area. The park was full - it was the Saturday of Labor Day weekend so many families had decided to camp. Normally we get along fine with neighboring campers but this time that was not the case. It seems that every adult had decided to cloister themselves in a camper or tent and let their kids and animals run wild. We had a dog come up and hike his leg on the corner of our tent, kids were running and screaming through our campsite - and this was well after 9 pm. We even had kids ( unsupervised - under 10 years old) walking around shining a flashlight in our tent while we were trying to sleep. Luckily we left early the next morning to get to Inks Lake for a canoe skills class so we didn't have to endure unruly kids for too long.

I say all of this to remind parents how important it is to teach your kids - early on - about camping etiquete and how to respect the other campers.

Re: Meridian State Park

I read the most hilarious thread about unruly kids on a pop-up forum that someone posted not to long ago. Some really funny suggestions: http://www.popupexplorer.com/forum/t...TOPIC_ID=43526

It is indeed unfortunate that campsite decorum is lacking in some folks. We were lucky in that it was a quiet group at the time. The little girls excitedly telling me about their fish only did so as we moved in. After that, never heard from them again. When you are in a small camp like Meridian, respect for your neighbor campers is even more important.
