Looking for site advice at Inks

Hi! I've read the fantastic and comprehensive reviews of Inks that many of you have posted and we are really excited to be going this week on Wed/Thurs/Fri (if not for the 20-30% chance of rain).

I am curious about what areas to stay in - we'll be tent camping and have reserved a water/elect site. I was thinking that down by the water would be best, but is it really a lot less shady? I think we'll need some shade. I also don't want to be too inconvnienced by the day use crowd right at my site. BUT, I like the way the waterfront sites don't seem to be right on top of eachother, at least one whole side of you is water, not other campers.

Turn Key, I read your review thoroughly and it sounds like #287 was a good site - we won't have boats. Any other suggestions? I also read where you advised that away from the water is more likely to see deer, but that's not super high on the priority list.

I want some bit of privacy or peace, like the idea of a water view, but not completely with no trees or shade.

Advice please! THX ~Amy

Re: Looking for site advice at Inks

Hi Amy,

More then happy to try to help here. You will be at one of my favorite parks and the only thing bad about it is that I won't be there too  .

If your going to be there on the weekend, you just have to except that privacy will be at a minimum. Not only do I like this park but about three quarters of Texas agrees with me and sometimes it feels like that many are there  . Just grin and bare it. I find fun just to sit and watch. It's amazing to see how many different ways some folk can set up a camp site (or not set up a camp site  ).

As far as site selection goes, this time of year I'd try for 232 or 233. If not them, any of about 8-12 either side of them. Lake front and pretty good shade in all of them. Of course many already know this so you may find it difficult to get one of them. It is good to know where you heading though. 289 gets very good shade but it is a small site. May or may not work for you. 43 is a very good water front site not far from the Park Store. Gets good shade in the afternoon and evening. Though I really like 287, I don't think I'd use it this late into spring. Same goes for 87 & 88. Great sites but they really get the late afternoon and evening sun. 92 is another good one in that area. Except for 289 you'll have little contact with "Day Use". Even 289 is far enough back not to be bothered much.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions. Wishing you a great trip and,

Happy Camping!

Thanks Turn Key!

We've rescheduled our trip until next week because of the 70-80% chance of rain. I know, we're wimps, but no thanks to camping in the rain!!! I'll save your advice until next week!

Re: Looking for site advice at Inks

Hey, I don't fault you at all. We were scheduled to be at Cleburne SP 3 days this week and canceled due to rain. Even in a "5th", 3-days camping in the rain isn't all that much fun.

Hope you get better weather next week and happy camping!

I have stayed at 332 and loved it. It has plenty of room for two tents, is on the water and offers some privacy. It is a quick walk to the restroom.
