Looking for camping in w. panhandle area.

Hi Gang,
We are planning on heading out this summer to New Mexico and on up into Colorado. Of course, the longest leg of the trip is getting away from Austin and out of our great state. What I am looking for is camping areas in the western panhandle area, between Lubbock and Clovis, NM that anyone is aware of.
We travel slowly in our old VW Westfalia, just enjoying the journey, so as Day one nears and end, I was hoping we could find a park somewhere that someone may be familair with in that area along US 84.
It's an area of our state that seems to be void of Texas State parks, I guess because of the remoteness.
Thanks
Gary

How about changing your route some & going through NM more? When I was searching for a NM SP to stay in for our trip, I saw plenty listed. I actually left Marble Falls & drove to Brantley Lakes SP near Carlsbad in about 7 hours. Would that be some sort of solution for you?

You did not give your route or how far you hoped to make it but here is a suggestion. There is a lake I beleive between Post and Snyder with some campsites. It is not a statepark but is just to east of Highway 84. If that fits your needs let me know. I have a friend in Lubbock who has camped there and he could provide more particulars. I am heading into New Mexico myself in May but am doing the hotel routine.

Just re read your post again. There is N O T H I N G between Lubbock and Clovis
Good luck on the journey

I guess it all depends on when we get out of town. We may leave in the late afternoon, put some distance behind us, before resting for the night. I think that is Lake Alan Henry off US 84. We passed by it last year, I didn't see much as far as sigsn advertising camping spots, but I would imagine there are some along the edge of the lake perhaps.
Part of just living in Centex is when we plan on heading north for cooler cliamtes int eh summer, it's a pretty long haul out of the state.
Thanks

Well just try living in Houston -- then things are even FURTHER away!

Take a look at our first trip in our RV from Colorado to San Marcos. It was a beautiful drive and we saw Texas at its best.
