Looking for cabin on river for family

Hi. I live in Austin and am looking for a good place to go on a weekend getaway. Two families would be going with 5 children under age 7. I was hoping to find a cabin on a river. We would like to canoe, fish, swim if it is warm, hike and just play around outside. Hopefully we can find a place within 2 hours of Austin. We are planning the trip for April.

Thank you for your help!

Re: Looking for cabin on river for family

I would do a google search for the towns of New Braunfels, which has both the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers flowing through, and Wimberley with its Blanco River. I don't have any specific property recommendations, as it's been several decades since our family stayed on the river. But I have very fond memories of a rope swing suspended from a tree branch which dangled over the river. Oh, the good times we had!

Re: Looking for cabin on river for family

I live in New Braunfels when i'm not at school in Austin, so i hope i can help. The Guadalupe will have more college age people and beer, and the Comal will be a little more toned down, though not much more. Camp Warnecke Estates sounds like something that would be perfect for you. the river is slower and a pretty good depth there, and there is a small enclosed area of water for younger kids. Schlitterbahn is literally right across the street, if that interests you.

Camp Warnecke

on the Guadalupe the only actual cabins i know of are the Mountain Breeze Cabins, or a name similar to that. there are condos and other proerties all along the miles of river between New Braunfels and Canyon Lake.

another place to look at is the Frio River in Concan. thats a great place, but i've only stayed there once in a tent, so i can't help much :hs:

hope that helps
