look'n for private tent campgrounds

Hoping some of ya'll can recommend some decent private campgrounds. I really like our state parkes, but it is getting impossable to get a site without a month's notice. Don't like camping next to drunks and loud music which makes private camps a bit iffy. We will have young children with us so we need close bathrooms and things for the kids to do. I am especially interest in TENT camping in the hill country (not an RV camp). We love Guadalupe River State Park and Garner State Park, but these are almost impossible reserve unless you can plan months ahead.

I would think this time of year the Gaudalupe along river road should have a lot of sites?
Canyon lake?
South Llano?
Medina lake?

Best I can do

Try some of the LCRA parks or ACOE ones. They don't seem as crowded.

Just up the road from Garner is Jernigans (sic) River Bend camp. Used to stay there a lot. Very family oriented, quiet place. From there it is a short, quick drive to garner if you want to utilize the park, then back to peace and quiet at the camp. They have screened shelters, campsites, showers and all the amenities on a beautiful stretch of the river. Also has a little pond for the kids to fish in if so desired.

Re: look'n for private tent campgrounds

thanks ya'll,i'm going to take a run down the river road sunday and check out a couple of places found on the web. River Road Camp, Lazy L&L, and Mermaid Cove. Like I said, state parks are preferable but it's getting harder and harder to get a spur of the moment site. want'n to camp thanksgivin but waited to late.Anyone notice that Reserve America's site is messed up.just try and use the texas parks phone in system. Worse than pull'n teeth.

Re: look'n for private tent campgrounds

We have enjoyed crowdless camping along River Road many times this time of year. Should be a great time...let us know
Of course, as you mentioned it is getting more and more crowded all the time.

Reserve America is a joke and you are correct on phoning in. I usually wait till the day before and chance it with the park staff. Very seldom get let down and usually end up better! They can pull a few strings and accomodate most times.

South Llano gets my vote for great park with quiet neighbors. Great park for kids. But, make sure the Walter Buck WMA is open for hiking and exploring. It was closed for a youth hunt the weekend we were there. I only heard 4 shots the whole time. Friends of ours are park hosting there right now, November and December.
