Re: Lockhart SP
I had forgotten about this post I made last September. Well, I will say Lockhart now falls in as one of our faves close by parks for sure. We camped right on the little creek that runs thru the park, yes the spots are a little close, but it wasn't too bad really. They have water and electricity hookup and nice lever pads too.
My son and I got out our cane poles and worms and went straight down to the creek and caught a mess of little perch and catfish, probably around a dozen or so! Boy was that fun. We then cleaned them, and put them all in a paper grocery sack full of corn meal and pepper and salt mix, then plopped them into the skillet full fo hot grease and fried them up, bones and all.
They were fantastic! We ate great, even made up some 'campin' taters' what my Grandpa used to cook for me when I was way little, just peel some potatoes, cut them in small cubes and fry them in the skillet the COleman stove. What a feast!
That afternoon we explored the park and admired the work the CCC Boys did 7o years ago. Amazing. What a shame at one time, Lockhart had a pool the CCC had made that used the water flowign from the creek. At some time, the pool was filled in and the creek is left to meander on it sown now, but I bet it was a site to see.
The next day we played golf ont he 9 hole course, right in the park. Very fun, as it was my son's 1st tiem to play and I hadn't played in years. It was great.
Lockhart SP, a nice little getaway for sure.
