    Lake Texana SP

We just got back from there camping for the weekend. Or I guess it's RV'ing now since we got the Hybrid. Well, whatever.... We were out in Nature!

I don't remember seeing much written about it so thought I'd give a report. We camped @ the very end of the park in the W/E sites. It was out on a 'point' and you could see the Lake from either side of the 'street' from the majority of the sites. SEveral people had brought boats and tied them up right at their site. I will take my 'yak when we go back.

The sites are very large and well-separated. There are TONS of HUGE oaks and LOTS of shady sites. Some are completely canopied over with trees, dripping Spanish moss! Lots of tent campers here, as well as in the Water only sites. (Three Boy Scout troups also -- this must be the season all the BS do their camping!)

We saw lots of wildlife -- more than we ever see @ Brazos Bend! Driving in Friday night we had to swerve to avoid a suicidal deer, then repeat for a possum, 2 armadillos, and a bevy of 'coons! We saw deer in the daylight, one was even lying down chewing its cud behind a campsite!!

And (hanging head in shame) we even tossed a few graham crackers @ the 'coon that joined our fire Sat. night. He was just too cute to resist, standing up on his hind paws and begging. DS tried to chase down a few armadillos, losing each time. And we heard some LARGE creature crashing through the brush behind our site -- DS swears it was Big Foot!!

I can't give a report on the bathrooms/showers as we never went in one. But for a neat park near Houston, this one is great!

Well I got the Hybrid over Columbus Day weekend. I took off 2 days from work and drove to Ohio & back (~ 2500 miles RT) to pick it up. Couldn't find anyone around here that could match RV Wholesalers price.

Here is a link to pics: PicVault.info Hosting - No Web Hosting Required! It's a Forest River Wildwood 17ExL. We absolutely LOVE it!

Lake Texana is 2 hours 15 minutes from Magnolia, where I live (behind The Woodlands). I hit the tollroad around west of Houston to 59 South.

There is also a place right across the 'street' from the SP that I also want to investigate someday. Places To Stay

DS did feel the lake water -- he said it was warmer than the air temp. He would have waded but I wouldn't let him.

    Re: Lake Texana SP

I'll chime in as well. It was the second place we stayed after we got our popup earlier this year. I agree. It was a great park and I think is often overlooked.

(I'm writing this comment from Inks Lake State Park -- another neat park worthy of its own post )

We use the showers and bathrooms at Texana and like most Tx state parks we've stayed at, they were very clean and easy to use. It's a large park with lots of sites. And some of the water sites looked very nice. Probably my only comment would be that there aren't a lot of hiking trails, but the lake is nice and there were a few ranger led talks/demos at the nature center.

Lots of cub scout groups in the tent camping area, but everyone seemed to be well behaved and having a great time.

    I recommend it!

    Re: Lake Texana SP

We will have to add it to our southern run, maybe esrly next summer, any pictures from either chatter?

Happybooker we have owned a hybrid for a few years and enjoy it, you can see it in many of my trip photos. Only bad in the long run, is if its really wet when your ready to go, you (we believe) have to get it (the beds) dry sooner rather than later, which takes time

Ours did need lots of warranty work the first year including replacing the canvas on the beds, but other than inconvience it was covered. How does the warranty work on your new hybrid? Do you anticipate trouble getting in because you did not buy it local? Just wondering We have looked at those places that sell like where you bought and considered doing the same thing, in fact when we move into the next rig will consider that again.

    Re: Lake Texana SP

Ummmm, sorry. No pics here. We went to Goliad SP just to get some Texas History & I took some there though!!

Troup198, I haven't used the warranty work yet, although I will have to as they forgot 2 of my 4 promised stab's and the spare tire. Supposedly they have a number of places that 'work' with them around the country.

So far, one of the stabilizers fell OFF so I replaced all the fasteners they used with nuts & bolts. The handle on my antenna crank keeps falling off, but I bet I can fix that too. And the kitchen faucet stopped working but that was simply the filter was clogged up. Rinsed it out & all was good.

I'm pretty sure I don't have any leaks because the ENTIRE 2 DAYS back I was in pouring, driving rain. I even had to pull over a couple of times cuz I couldn't see to drive!

I'm waiting to take it in because I can't find a lull in the camping!!

    The joys of new ownership

We had the antenna screw problem at first also, and replaced the faucet under warrenty because it leaked below the sink.

Our trailer did not come with a spare, bought one after 12 months though after a flat at Cooper Lake SP on the trailer ;(

Use your solar screen on the bunks ( We had the discussion once on popup gizmo's)

Happy Camping and we like pictures
