Interior of Big Bend Ranch SP

Does anyone have any experience with the interior (backcountry) areas of Big Bend Ranch State Park, including either the primitive camp sites or the Sauceda ranch house? I have seen discussions here about the Rancherias Loop Trail and the drive along the river, but I could not find anything about the backcountry.

The state park website talks about several shorter dayhikes in the backcountry off of the gravel road as well as guided vehicle trips to the Solitario (9 mile diameter caldera). The article about Big Bend in the current (August) issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine mentions a 17-mile dayhike from the Solitario to Lajitas. I was so intrigued by this that I actually ordered the topo maps for the area last weekend. (I had to take advantage of mytopo.com's special 20% off before the end of July ) The maps arrived in the mail today. Actually, if anyone has hiked the newer Contrabando multi-use trail, that would be of interest, too. From the topos, it looks like the walk out of the Solitario through the south shutup eventually joins with that trail.

I may have to break down and call the ranger station and/or one of the outfitters, but I was hoping someone here might have already been there.

Re: Interior of Big Bend Ranch SP

Oops, this post is probably way tooo late as the post was on 08-05-2005 09:28 PM. Oh well, if you want any more information on the interior of BBRSP - let me know over at www.bigbendchat.com which has a section devoted to BBRSP. My google bot just turned up this post - 2 years late!
