For all of our friends from the wild texas forums and all those who experienced damage, we too wish you well in your recovery. It sounds like all of you wild texans have your health and that is the most important thing. Other things can be replaced over time.

    Re: Hurricane Ike

We made it ok. We lost a tree in the back yard that fell on the fence. Thank God it missed the house. We were without power for two weeks but made out fine.
I'm still new to Houston and was impressed on how generous Houstonians were in this disaster. I've seen people go out of their way to help out complete strangers which I was not exactly expecting. I'm originally from Brooklyn and never expected this. After the hurricane I thought it would be every man for them self but it wasn't like that at all.
Houston is truly a great city and I don't doubt all of Texas is the same.

Glad Ike was not too mean to you. And yes, Texans are the best! But its not only Texans that have come to allof our aid. I've seen workers and volunteers from all over, such as Oregon and New Jersey, Arizona and South Dakota. While I am a very proud Texan I am even more proud to be an American.

I will, however, be very glad to see this hurricane season come to an end.

    Re: Hurricane Ike

We do have some great people in Texas and in our great country,so many people from around the country helping to get our lifes back to "normal".We have 2 of our elderly friends that still haven't got their power on yet,but we got them covered with generators and small ac units .All the block has really rallied and everyone is covered. We have nighty cookouts to make sure no one goes without, places for people to take baths and restrooms. We have school runs for the kids and now have gas stations again. You would not believe all the trees we have cut up,firewood for years. But we have it easy compare to others.Surfside is still not open to non-residents,we got to go help in the starting of clean up and over 1/2 of the houses are gone.We filled up 58 large dumpsters and 32 dumptrucks.Tough people with good hearts. They are dredging the canel between the jetties because of all the sand washed in during the surge. Our friends house in Surside is still standing and we are starting on it next week if insurance lets us.We have a Blue roof on it and temp stairs to get in and out,we have clear out all the debris and just waiting to get the ok.Have you got your lights on HB1,hope so.Ping -ping you are so right about Texas and glad you are here, like rockhill said Hang in there it will get better.

    Hurricane Ike Affects Texas Parks

Most of the Texas state parks in the path of Hurricane Ike have been cleaned up, have electricity again and are open for business. Galveston Island and Sea Rim state parks on the Gulf Coast, however, suffered catastrophic damage, and will be closed for some time.

San Jacinto Battlegrounds Historic Site in La Porte southeast of Houston and Mission Tejas State Park near Grapeland suffered the most structural damage.

Mission Tejas State Park’s headquarters building suffered significant damage from fire caused by the malfunction of a portable generator. Arrangements are being made to secure a temporary structure to house park operations. Timber salvage operations are under way at Village Creek and Lake Livingston state parks.

Brazos Bend State Park southwest of Houston is being cleared of storm debris and still has no power

Thanks for the updates. I've got a bad feeling about Sea Rim and GSP. I can see GSP reopening but not Sea Rim. And that is a shame.
