Re: Hurricane Ike

We made it ok. We lost a tree in the back yard that fell on the fence. Thank God it missed the house. We were without power for two weeks but made out fine.
I'm still new to Houston and was impressed on how generous Houstonians were in this disaster. I've seen people go out of their way to help out complete strangers which I was not exactly expecting. I'm originally from Brooklyn and never expected this. After the hurricane I thought it would be every man for them self but it wasn't like that at all.
Houston is truly a great city and I don't doubt all of Texas is the same.

Re: Hurricane Ike

Glad Ike was not too mean to you. And yes, Texans are the best! But its not only Texans that have come to allof our aid. I've seen workers and volunteers from all over, such as Oregon and New Jersey, Arizona and South Dakota. While I am a very proud Texan I am even more proud to be an American.

I will, however, be very glad to see this hurricane season come to an end.

Hurricane Ike Affects Texas Parks

Most of the Texas state parks in the path of Hurricane Ike have been cleaned up, have electricity again and are open for business. Galveston Island and Sea Rim state parks on the Gulf Coast, however, suffered catastrophic damage, and will be closed for some time.

San Jacinto Battlegrounds Historic Site in La Porte southeast of Houston and Mission Tejas State Park near Grapeland suffered the most structural damage.

Mission Tejas State Park’s headquarters building suffered significant damage from fire caused by the malfunction of a portable generator. Arrangements are being made to secure a temporary structure to house park operations. Timber salvage operations are under way at Village Creek and Lake Livingston state parks.

Brazos Bend State Park southwest of Houston is being cleared of storm debris and still has no power

Thanks for the updates. I've got a bad feeling about Sea Rim and GSP. I can see GSP reopening but not Sea Rim. And that is a shame.
