Huntsville State Park

Hey folks,

hope all is well.
Didn't see any first hand info on Hunstville State Park. I'm planning a day hike and swim and quick camp out this weekend there. My question: does anyone know if the loop around Lake Raven(approximately 7 miles?), leads to any access to the water for a swim? Is the water decently clean there? Thanks for the help.

Re: Huntsville State Park

The trail stays relatively close to the lake. There is a good spot to swim once you get around to the dam area - they even have a picnic table and a trash can there. You can't miss that spot either, it is fairly open and obvious. The water is typical to East Texas, very brown/copper looking from all the sand and minerals in the location, but I grew swimming in this area - so it does have some side effects - just kidding! It'll do fine to beat the heat.

There is an amazing stand of Dogwood along this trail, as well as a very old stand of American Holly that I find very impressive every time I hike there.

Good luck, be safe, and most of all, enjoy!

Aside: I think he's looking for a skinny-dippin' hole.

Who could blame him on a hot summer's day?
