Hello everyone,
Just got back from my 7 day campout at Guadalupe River State Park. I camped in the walk in campsite and found it to be very nice. Although I was hoping for a more primitive setting, I did enjoy my stay. Since I was there for 7 days I did see other campers coming and going on a daily basis. Most staying for just a day or two. The river was such a refreshing place to cool off during the day. I spent lots of my time riding my bicycle around the park on the trails. And each day I would also ride my bike to Hwy 46 which is an 11 mile ride from the park to the highway and back. Those hills up there gave me a good workout. Even though I was camping by myself this time, I had many visitors who visited me nightly.....raccoons and armadillos! They kept me company throughout my trip. I highly recommend this park to anyone who is looking for a fun place to camp.

Guadalupe River State Park is high on my list as well. One big reason for this is that it is a relatively short drive down Blanco Road to Highway 46 from our house. How were the crowds on the weekend? We've visited on a few weekends where the parking was overflowing into open fields...it was terrifying to see so many folks descending on the park at once.

As a result, most of our visits are duing the week or during the cooler seasons.

Shan and I will visit the park soon to bike the new hike & bike trail that opened and starts just past the visitor center (on the right).

Glad you enjoyed your trip! As Justin (my husband, username: OutdoorPhoto.com) mentioned, Guadalupe River SP is one of our favorites in this part of Texas.

I'd be interested in knowing how much gear, food, water (if any), etc. you brought along for a 7 day/night campout. I'm aware the walk-in sites have water, so you probably didn't bring much, but for food what did you get by with?

Hi Shannon,
I don't know if you remember me, but I was the guy about a week ago that was asking all the questions about primitive camping and what I should take. This was my first solo campout and I wasn't sure what to expect. So, I ended up taking way to much of everything. As it turns out, there was a water faucet not more than 25 feet from my tent site, which I wasn't expecting. So the water I took along wasn't ever really needed. I really enjoyed Guadalupe River State Park and will camp there again someday. But the next time I really would like to find a true primitive campsite where I have to really take everything that I will need. I learned a lot from this 7 day campout and will apply what I learned to my next campout.

Hill country state park is good for primitive camping. There is no electricity or water there. Shannon has a review of the park. Its kinda hot this time of the year! :mad:
