Question Guadalupe River SP trip in August!!

This forum is great, I've been wanting to go camping for a while, and after reading all these reviews at this site, I decided to go with GRSP. I already made reservations for 6 sites (even though I might not use them all) at the Wagon Ford Walk in Tent area. Even though you guys have answered most of my questions about camping, I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Wagon Ford area, and how far are each tent sites from the others. Also, are there any nearby Tube, Raft, Canoe, etc rentals nearby the park? Any other advice on what to do while my stay here will be greatly appreciated!! My trip is 08/16 to 08/18 so you can expect another review on GRSP when I get back

Re: Guadalupe River SP trip in August!!

Welcome aboard, RichO2! Hope we can help and you enjoy your time here.

Guadalupe River is one of our favorite parks and have been there more then a few times. Though we don't use Wagon Ford, it is a very nice part of the park and you should be happy with it. Sites are spread out well but even though there is good shade, there is little privacy. Area is "open" with high, over-hanging tree branches.

If your interested in tubing and kayaking, I would suggest a trip over to Gruene, Texas. They have a number of outfitters there that should be able to fix you up. I'm going to give you sites to a review on GRSP that I did after our last trip. It includes some info on Gruene that should help you out. Due to messageboard limits this review is in two sections, thus two references:

Hope this gives you the information you need and you have a great trip.

Happy Camping!

No tube/raft rentals in/near the park--gotts bring them in with you. Head over to Canyon Lake and float the river above it or below it. Low now--only 100cu.ft./sec. May well be lower in August.

Re: Guadalupe River SP trip in August!!

You asked about canoe/tube rental. Look up guadelupecanoe.com they are on us 281 where the river crosses. I haven't used them, just came across their website.
If you go further downsteam, around Sattler, float the horseshoe. It is a nice float. You can park, rent your tube, walk over the hill and float back where you started from.

Its not a far walk and its a nice shady place on the river. During the summer you can rent tubes and other items at the park.

Warning: you will be dragging your butt if we don't get some rain.

Re: Guadalupe River SP trip in August!!

We were there a few months back. Rented plenty of tubes. They even shuttled us up river where we floated back to the park. Trip took 3 hours. Really nice.
