We are hopefully going to try and float the Frio next Friday (8/01). I have had conflicting stories about the best place to go right now.
We are staying in Camp Wood and will just drive down for the day. We have done this once before, but for the life of me, I have no clue where we went in or came out at.
Anyway, I know it's low, does anyone know where is the best place to go with the least amount of walking? A shuttle is a must too, as we are only bringing one vehicle. Also, I will have 2 first time "doggie tubers" with me, so while I don't want anything treacherous, something swift and fast paced from time to time is fine.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!

First of all, welcome. I have heard that from 7 Bluffs to the 2nd crossing is still ok but since the storm has come (Dolly), they may have gotten some rain. I have not gotten any feedback on that yet.

Check previous post about camping on Frio. There was a contributor posting that was from the Frio area and could probably provide some recent and detailed knowledge.
well i looked back and the site is funrivers.com

I know they have had a little, I have been watching that very closely. According to USGS Real-Time Water Data for USGS 08195000 Frio Rv at Concan, TX CFS has gone up from 17 (2 days ago) to 24 today...so that is some improvement.
I will check out the other links provided....
Thanks a lot!!

We started at whatever the drop off point was that went to the first crossing....it was EXTREMELY low!! We probably walked half the way. Slippery doesn't come close to describing the walk!! The dogs loved all the attention they got though....and they CRASHED when we got back to camp and didn't move until the next day!!
I won't try to float again with the water that low....I will just find a deep spot and chill there.

honeask & rockhill.. thanks for thinking of me when it comes to the Frio! We try our best in providing as much information as possible for the area and giving any suggestions.
Kellye- I apologize for not seeing this post earlier to give our input.. I wish I had seen this before you came down
we didn't get much out of Dolly nor the latest batch unfortunately.. so the water hasn't risen any. For anybody considering coming down, we would suggest finding a nice spot to lounge- that's what a lot of people are doing now and really enjoying themselves. There are some beautiful spots to relax, swim and take in the Hill Country.. can be just as fun as tubing in my opinion..
If you are coming down soon or anytime- feel free to PM me with any questions. We would be happy to help ... You can also contact us through our site: Welcome to funrivers.com - Your Link to the Frio River Canyon
We have also been been actively updating our blog here: funrivers.com
Take Care,

Thanks for the info! I am sure we will be planning another trip back that way next summer....even thought it was low and slow...we still had a blast. I am from West Texas, so even a little water is better than what we are used to. Maybe by this time next year I will have finally healed up from all the "slips" I took...either by the slippery rocks or my dogs dragging me down the river!!
Your site is great BTW!!

We had a great trip, and a little rain helped the frio but a lot more is needed. We had a good group of 16 and more with all the kids, alot of walking in spots and a few butt bruises but it was fun.Did'nt meet Altrima I guess they changed there trip.Only real panic came when taking Dd's tent down and found a snake,we scared each other real good,I guess he did'nt like the rain.He made a fast retreat to water and I made it to top of rock.New pup was great,so glad we got it.Frio was clouding up when we were leaving and they said they had more rain on the way, was'nt slowing anyone down at the park.Hope we can get a trip in November otherwise we will back next summer. Now the fun part unloading in the rain at home, must have rained a bunch while we were gone rain gauge is full at 8 inches.

Glad to hear you had a good trip.. Where did ya'll stay? We did get some rain last weekend and Monday which helped the Frio a little while making it murky.
But we still haven't gotten the "Big Rain" everybody is wanting.. oh well.. Mother Nature will come when she comes.. As I have always said, regardless of the Frio Water Levels, there are always good spots to go and just being here is enough for a lot of people.
Not sure where and when you are staying in November (If you can make it down) but if you ck out our most recent blog post... one of the lodging parks is having one heck of a deal..
Take Care,

Thanks srds... we try our best to be current/up to date on things here and appreciate any and all feedback.. We honestly really enjoy doing what we do and love this place..
We went to Uvalde yesterday to do some of our bulk grocery shopping and when we got back, it had rained either 1 1/2 or 2 inches while we were out. Not sure if we emptied the 1/2 inch or not the last time it rained. It was coming down pretty hard and supposed to get more this weekend. Should be getting out soon to see if Frio is up.
