Fishing

I plan to fish the Guadalupe near the park the first week of June. I am not really a fisherman. What kind of bait and tackle should I bring. Should I fish morning, night, afternoon? What might I likely catch?

I will bring a canoe. Would I do as well from the bank as a canoe?

Thanks,

John

Thumbs down Hope You Do Better!

I am an avid fisherman and usually have good luck no matter where I go. Spend a week in the Hill Country each spring and always fish a good bit of the time. Was at Guadalupe River SP for 8 days last month and fished quite a bit. Must say I had very poor results on all the lures and techniques that produce for me in that area of the state. Thought it was me until I noticed that no one else was catching either.

Would advise using "light" to "ultra-light" tackle with 4-6 lb. line. Would not advise anything heavier then an 8 lb. line on a medium weight set-up. 1/8 oz. lures or lighter should work well. Color will depend on clarity of the water.

Hope this helps and good luck. Let me know how you make out.

...fish in the morning and evening. Afternoons usually don't produce well. A canoe could be a big help but it will move you down the river faster then you want to go. I'd figure out some kind of light weight anchore that you could drag behind the canoe to slow you down.
