Fires banned in SP's?
Another post on the lack of rain around South Texas begs the question--does the touted "burn-ban" include campfires at the SP's? I searched the State P & W site, specific site for Guadalupe River SP, as well as the Reserve America sites, and nowhere was there info on this question. Thought I'd post before I called tomorrow...

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
I think (which is usually wrong.. just ask the wife and kids) that the use of the metal, off the ground, fire grates is ok, even in dry conditions. But that may be trumped by the extreme case we are under now.
Adios,

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
I know that many times we have camped at S.Parks and have not been able to have fires. Evem this past summer at Martin creek lake they had a burn ban.
It seems to tie to the local burn bans

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
FYI, GRSP said indeed the ban means no fires in the fire rings. All they will allow is a grill WITH a lid to cover it/Coleman stoves, etc...
PLEASE rain........

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
It's not the population, it's the concentration.
In a drought, snakes will go to dog bowls, horse troughs and cattle tanks.
We've had colonies of cottonmouths migrate from drying creeks to the drainage ditch in our yard, kept a bit moist from our water softener and sprinklers.
I have made Olympic caliber leaps with my big toe in the past.. and have put on a few pounds, I may not clear the snake this time.
Adios,

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
Burn bans here in North Texas have been extended to include not only campfires at SP's, but even the use of propane grills. Pretty sad when the majority of these fires are caused by cigarettes being tossed out car windows.

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
Seems like most of these fires were blamed on fireworks.. but I admit to not having read about the cause of every fire.
I was out for a bit yesterday.. it's August dry out there.. scary!

Re: Fires banned in SP's?
Burn bans are authorized by the local County Commissioners, the parks must enforce within their boundaries. In every case, open flame fires are prohibited. In some cases, this includes charcoal fires!
Camp stoves are exempt, as there are no wood embers or coals to escape from the grill or firepits.
